RUNABOUT GP2 CHAMPION MATTIA FRACASSO WINS MOTO 1

Saturday, 2 June, OLBIA (Sardinia, Italy): An exciting first Moto in Runabout GP2 rounded off this morning’s great racing with defending champion Mattia Fracasso looking to be on course to defend his title after winning the first of this weekend’s three Motos at the UIM-ABP Aquabike Grand Prix of the Mediterranean.

After three false starts the Moto finally got underway with Fracasso leading to the first turn and at the end of lap one, but he was passed by Marcus Jorgensen who held the lead and was over eight seconds clear when an electrical problem ended his race on lap 6, handing the lead and the win to the Italian.

Alejandro Molina Miranda came home in second place 10.14s behind the leader and was followed to the chequered flag by Ismael Rojas, but a post-race 1 lap penalty for cutting the course dropped him to seventh, handing third place to a young rising star of the future, 16-year-old Samuel Johansson making his UIM-ABP tour debut and following in his father Johan’s footsteps.

Mindaugus Jaciauskas picked up a couple of places to finish fourth, with Alexander Kabatov and Yahya Rammah rounding out the top six and a lap down.
