Saturday, July 18: With all 14 categories competing in Gyor having completed their first Motos, the afternoon saw the first of the weekend’s Moto 2s, setting up intense battles for the Grand Prix of Hungary title as racing reaches its final day tomorrow.

European Continental Championship

As he had done in Mira, Stefano Castronovo proved himself one of the strongest race starters Runabout GP2 has ever seen, as he flew off the start to go from thirteenth to second place, with only Karl Keskula able to beat him to the holeshot. However, Castronovo once again proved unable to protect his early lead, falling back to eighth place by the time he crossed the finish line. 

Karl Keskula kept his lead for most of Moto 2, but had to contend with Vaznys Domantas gradually closing the gap and aggressively going for the overtake. It eventually took ten laps for Domantas to execute the overtake, just as the race was coming to a close, securing him the victory and pushing Keskula back to a second-placed finish.

The top four positions in Ski GP3’s Moto 2 remained the exact same as in Moto 1, with Leo Kete once again triumphing by some distance, finishing 22.50 seconds ahead of second-placed Barnabas Szabo. Michael Von Reybroeck once again took the final podium place, with Lajos Komonyi finishing fourth behind him.

After winning every Ski GP4 Moto so far this season, Csongor Jászai’s winning streak was finally interrupted by Dorijan Jakopanec, who put in a convincing display to finish the race 17.32 seconds ahead of second-placed Jászai. The Ski GP4 battle for the Grand Prix of Hungary win now all comes down to Moto 3, with Jászai and Jakopanec going into tomorrow’s final showdown on 47 points apiece.

Alizée Vanden-Blecken continued her unbeaten streak in Runabout Ladies GP4, once again dominating the Moto from start to finish. She crossed the finish line 16.54 seconds ahead of second-placed Michelle Dimov.

Arti Molter claimed the Moto 2 win in a hotly contested Runabout GP4 race. Jose Vainio had won all three Motos in Mira, but has thus far proven unable to claim the top spot in Gyor, having come third in Moto 1 and tightly missed out on the top spot in Moto 2, finishing just 1.54 seconds behind Molter in second place.

Marvin Bohuslav continued his winning form in Ski Junior GP4, once again leading from start to finish to claim another 25 points.

Junior World Championship

Noam Santos Bíró once again led from start to finish to comfortably claim his second Ski Junior GP3.2 Moto win of the Grand Prix. The Hungarian never looked in trouble at the front, crossing the finish line with a healthy 18.00 second lead.

Milo Beernaut overtook Leo Kete to take the holeshot in Ski Junior GP3.3, going on to establish a 1.82 second lead after the first lap. Kete remained close to Beernaut throughout Moto 2, chipping away at his lead to just 1.35 seconds after eight laps, and continued to decrease the gap until the very last lap. But Beernaut’s early lead provided enough of a buffer, with the Belgian crossing the finish line 0.96 seconds ahead of second-placed Kete.
